SOUND UP: YOUTUBE VIDEO

00:03—Chances are you’ve checked this site in the last couple of days. It’s the most popular website on the Internet for user generated content—Yes, it’s YouTube—and it’s giving it’s users all the power. You can find just about anything there—from crazy stunts or personal diaries but tens of thousands are also finding something else on this popular site—how to videos. Call it a version of “pay it forward” but many with talent are sharing it with you and fans are lapping up the free lessons, it’s becoming the ultimate how to tool

00:43—(ZOJA)On YouTube you can get everything step by step and it’s great so you can at least practice yourself or practice on a friend. And also not everyone’s face is the same so in order to get the practice on different faces, you need to know what you’re doing and what looks good so it’s good to see faces on YouTube as well.

01:07-(BRADY)Most people on YouTube are looking for how to cheat. What I did was come up with a strategy , a way that they should think to help them solve it themselves so when they dofinish it, they can show something that they can be proud of.

KRISTA SAYING “IT’S THE VERY VIDEO THAT I USE —-“

01:43 VO: Krista Feddes is another user of how to videos who loves to dance and tells me how she got into it

01:50 CLIP KRISTA: You know what, if I look this up in YouTube and find it and I can learn how to do it. So one day I was just doing it and you know what I want to learn how to linedance and I just picked the song I wanted to learn and before I know it, got my roommates involved and the next night I was able to linedance . So yah, it worked out pretty well.

BRIDGE: 02:12- “Youtube has become a powerful tool, giving the people the opportunity to learn just about everything. Listen to this—the university of California pretapes all their courses and posts it in YouTube for free. Now I’m about to meet with Devin Janetta, Education Advisor for Meriam music school-let’s see what he has to say”

I think when you’re doing lessons online, Youtube or whatever, there’s a complete lack of customization or specialization. In that, with the teacher everybody learns differently as individuals. That’s the qualities of an excellent teacher is being able to understand that in the student and customize the lesson. When you’re watching a lesson on Youtube, that’s not being made for you, it’s being made for who knows who. Right.

If I make a mistake, the teacher will tell me exactly how to fix it. I think if you’re learning of the Internet, you can’t do that because it doesn’t tell you how to fix a mistake.

It’s worth every penny. Every penny we spend, and I’ll spend more.

I don’t think Youtube is a complete alternative for learning something. I think it’s a good beginning-learning tool for people who are like “Hey I want to try this”. And they go and they see if they can do it on Youtube and maybe it’s that stepping stone for them to be like “You know what, I want to actually take these lessons, or I actually want to put more time into this.

Well one thing is for certain; Youtube is definitely an affordable way to learn, so come on let’s dance. What are you guys up to?
Krista: You ready?
Cristina: Okay let’s go. For FYI I’m Cristina Carpio.
